Reflections On My Mirror--Today

Mirror writing...Earlier I posted "Reflections On My Mirror" earlier this week...

Since I moved last summer I again started the mirror writings.  The original writings were on my bathroom mirror.  The bathroom mirror here is much too small, so these are on my bedroom mirror.  They are a bit different, but they are reminders that I need to read....

Be kind to one another, tender hearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ has forgiven you.

There is still a lot of space on my mirror, lots of room for other things that have special meanings to me.
If you need a constant reminder about something, and encouragement, a blessing, a push, try writing it on your mirror, with a scripture to match. It can start or end your day with just what you need!

Reflections On My Mirror

Years ago I use to write on my mirror, things that helped me live each day, reminders of things that are most important.  When I moved from that house, that mirror, I wrote them all on a dry erase board so I could keep them with me in my new home.  When I moved from there, I got rid of many things, including the dry erase board.  From there, I wrote them in my journal.  They are still in my journal, and now they are here. I can feel the healing power of God working in me today! I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.  Phil 4:13 Live in the present moment. God can work miracles. Ps 77:14 Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.  Ps 37:4 My happiness cannot possibly depend on my forcing changes in someone else.  Nor does my misery come from anyone but me.  (Al-Anon) Growth in wisdom comes in obeying Gods laws.  Praise his name forever.  Ps 72:19 Unconditional love is of the soul, instantaneous, universal, not bound and from God. In His will is our peace.   You are a mighty God. Don't be impatient, wait for the Lord and He will come and save you.  Be brave, stout hearted and courageous.  Yes wait, and he will help you.  Ps 27:14 God show me the way. For I know the  plans I have for you says the Lord, to give you a future and a hope.  Jer 29:11 With hope in our lives, all else is possible. This too shall pass.  (AA and Al-Anon) I pray to learn to enjoy the good each day brings and not to be apprehensive about the future which is in God's hands. Enjoy the good life.  Receive it with a grateful heart. With God all things are possible.  Matt 19:26 I will not give up my passions and my dreams.  I will live to do them.  (Me) I am the miracle! EVERY time I read these I feel blessed.  God is an awesome God.  Waking up I am reminded.  Looking outside I am reminded.  Living each day, one more day I am reminded. Philippians 4:10-14 (Paul) says: God who gives peace will be with you. 10 At last you are concerned about me again. That makes me very happy. We belong to the Lord. I know that you have been concerned. But you had no chance to show it. 11 I’m not saying that because I need anything. I have learned to be content no matter what happens to me. 12 I know what it’s like not to have what I need. I also know what it’s like to have more than I need. I have learned the secret of being content no matter what happens. I am content whether I am well fed or hungry. I am content whether I have more than enough or not enough. 13 I can do everything by the power of Christ. He gives me strength. 14 But it was good of you to share in my troubles.  This is what I strive for, to be content, no matter what, no matter what.  I can do everything by the power of Christ.  He gives me strength. Living Water

Two things.
I'm packing...well, I'm purging my house in preparation for packing.  Friday I found a small yellow card with a scripture or  prayer written on it that use to hang on the mirror in my bedroom back home.
I was delighted to find it.  I use to read it every day.  It said,

"God, whose grace overflows at times we find ourselves in a dry and weary land, lead us to streams in the desert.  Quench the thirst of our souls with your living water".

Today as I was riding I thought of the scripture again.
Last year I wrote about my horse and I finding this "oasis" in the desert which was created by an irrigation system in the cotton field.  Well, it's irrigation time again in west Texas and last Saturday, the "creek was flowing".  My horse could not get enough.  He drank and played and pawed and stuck his head in the water.

On Sunday when we rode again it was not on.  He truly was very disappointed.  Both times going past it in both directions he just stopped and stared.  I felt so bad for him.
Well, today, praise God, the system was watering again.  Today he did the same thing, drinking and walking through the water.

We could see it from a distance.

After drinking, he just stopped and rested and enjoyed the water bouncing off his head.  He was at peace feeling what felt like rain.
What came to mind for me, was the scripture I had just read.  How God will create a stream in the desert to quench our souls.  He will truly let water or his word flow into us to revive us, to give our souls living water.
For that I am truly thankful.
And to the cotton farmer I am also thankful.  He gives my horse a reprieve from the heat, from the dry dusty earth and waters his soul as well.

I tried to find this scripture in "Bible Gateway" but could not find it exactly under several translations so I am not sure if it is a scripture or a prayer.  Either way there are a number of scriptures in the Bible expressing the same thing.

"You Know What the Scripture Says?"

OK, moving is NOT my thing...no really, seriously, I hate moving.  I don't like to pack to go on vacation.  I don't like to pack for the weekend.  I don't like packing or moving.  Got it?  So you can imagine that when I think about moving a whole house, my house, anxiety and worry start creeping in.  I don't even know where to start, but I am not a person to put something off until the last minute.

In an attempt, however, to start somewhere I decided to start with purging first, trying to get rid of any and everything I did not plan to take with me, stuff I've accumulated after I moved here basically.  So the purging started and in one room and several closets turned into a couple of car loads to the resale shop.  No seriously, in only a small area I came up with a couple of car loads.  So you can imagine what I'm thinking.  If I came up with all this in only a couple of days, how much am I going to come up with that needs to go out of my house before I can even start packing.  I had two days that I could drop off stuff at the resale shop.  One was last Friday and the other is July 30th.  What in the WORLD am I going to do with all that stuff I come up with between now and July 30th!!!

Well, I loaded my car and dropped off the first load, stating "I'll be back with rest".  After hauling in the second load I looked at my friend Beverly, who owns the resale shop, with some tears in my eyes and said, "I am overwhelmed.  I don't know where to start or what to do.  I have so much stuff I need to get rid of before I can even start to pack.  The house I'm moving to just isn't as big.  Much of my stuff can't go.  What am I going to do".  Bev is an older gal than me.  Sweet and has a huge heart.  She is kind and reassuring about most things.  In the last 5 years since i have been here we have become friends.  She said "Robin, you know what the Bible says?"  I said "I know a lot of what it says".  She said "it says 'by worrying, you don't get any taller'!"  I thought to myself, well, no it doesn't quite say that, but that certainly is true.  Regardless it made me laugh out loud and I said, "well, then there is just absolutely no need for me to worry".  She referred me to a small mover who will load your stuff here and take it to your new home and unload it there.  She said "he is really good and will take care of you and your things".  The whole interchange lightened my mental load and I left there browsing my phone book and making a call to "Marlin Movers".  He told me he would work out a quote and give me a call back.  He also gave me some great suggestions about packing.  Buy some packing paper, some tape and some boxes, all uniform sizes at Home Depot or Lowes so they'll be easier to stack.  He said in a two bedroom house I"ll probably have about 100 boxes.  He said "if you pack 5 boxes a day you can be packed in 20 days....you have plenty of time Robin if you are not moving until August 10th".  He was very helpful and very kind.  He also calmed me down and gave me a plan.  I did exactly what he said...went to Lowes and made those purchases.  I'll also be calling a couple of local movers to see about the cost of having someone doing the loading, trucking and unloading for me.

In the meantime I called my daughter to tell her about the exchange with Bev and the scripture. We laughed about it again. I actually remembered the scripture as saying something like "worrying doesn't add a day to your life" but as it turns out the following are the scriptures in the Bible regarding worry..

So although there is nothing in the scripture regarding "worrying not making you any taller" I know that that will now become one of my sayings..."worrying doesn't make you any taller" to anyone who is worrying (including me).  It's like my family's other saying "there's must be a picnic table in the road" in reference to things that keep happening to delay us from doing something or getting on the road to leave for someplace until we finally get the go ahead to leave (that the picnic table is cleared out of the road).

So, to all of us...don't worry!
