First Day of Fall Ya'll

I don't know how I could have woken up to a more glorious first day of fall!  Beautiful sunrise and 63 degrees; a bit breezy; and green has taken the place of brown.  God was everywhere I looked this morning.     A two mile walk, Sunday school and church and my grandson's third birthday party.  It's a truly blessed day.  I hope yours is too!

Praise God, from whom all blessings flow;
Praise him, all creatures here below;
Praise him above, ye heavenly host;
    Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.

In a Leafy Silence

Two days ago I wrote about the brown ugly leaves that cover my yard.  Someone (A Quiet Life) changed my focus and reminded me how the leaves protect and cover the tender growth below them, for promises of grass and plants in spring.
Today again I am prompted to change my focus of the brown ugly leaves.  The reminder is of my gratitude in my ability to hear.  I'm sitting on the porch with Ikey, enjoying the "spring" weather I spoke of two days ago...it's 74 degrees.

I hear a rustling of those brown crunchy leaves as the cattle walk in the pasture up close to my house.  I hear!  There is enough silence and peace around me that I can "hear" the rustling of those leaves.  I can also hear the turning of the windmill that turns, pumping water from the ground for the cattle to drink.  As the breeze blows I can also hear the tingling of the chimes that lull me to sleep at night along with the singing of the coyotes.  My gratitude includes my life in the country minus the car horns, police sirens, and the loudness of city life.  Oh how grateful I am for my little house in the country.
So, brown, ugly leaves, I am grateful to you after all.  I thank you for the blanket you provide and look forward to your spring surprise!

With or Without Marshmallows

With marshmallows for me!   Hot chocolate that is!

Today was the first cold day of fall and hot chocolate was absolutely called for.  A northern blew in sometime early this morning in a huff and you could feel the difference.  The wind blew all day, hard.  I don't believe the temperature ever got above 50 degrees here today.
Ikey and I, we just hung close to the house, close to some hot tea, grilled egg and cheese sandwich for lunch and chili with rice for dinner.  I wish I"d had a tamale or two to go with it.
Ikey insisted on being in my lap all day and has only been out three times!  Generally he's got to check out every scent in the yard.  Today, however, he just did what dogs do and headed straight back to the house...in a hurry!
Tomorrow is suppose to be sunny and cold.  Another perfect day.
