"You listen with your ears!" That's what Baby Gray told me yesterday as we sat on the porch and he put his hand behind his ear to listen for the sound of the chimes clinking on my porch.
This morning as I wake up, I hear the Mockingbird's song, the sound of light rain touching the grass and a gentle breeze blowing the leaves. I was planning on riding my horse this morning however, I think I'll stay in bed with my hand behind my ear!
Isaiah 30:21
"Whether you turn to the right or the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you saying, "This is the way, walk in it."

"Make it your ambition to lead a quiet life and attend to your own business and work with your hands...." 1 Thessalonians 4:11 "She never shook the stars from their appointed courses, but she loved her God and she rode good horses."

Another Miracle at the Little Cottage in the Oaks
RAIN!! Truly a miracle in this drought we are having. Praise God!
Last night the winds started blowing from the north. Blowing, shake the walls, break the limbs blowing. Thunder began to sound and lightening cracked across the sky.
Ikey is deathly afraid of thunder so he was sticking to me like glue. Before we went to bed only a few drops had hit the ground but more rain was predicted.
During the night another storm came. We sat up in bed and watched. (Ikey doesn't sleep during a thunder storm).
This afternoon, same thing happened...wind, dark skies, and crackling thunder. I grabbed my camera to go out to actually get some photos of "rain" and found a little hummer looking for a place to stay warm and dry. The temperature was about 30 degrees colder than yesterday. The little black headed hummer flew around on the front porch for several minutes. He buzzed so close to me I thought he was going to land on my shoulder. I just stood still. Then he finally landed on the little metal gate on the porch.
I took a few photos and stepped back inside. He hung out there until the rain subsided. How cool is that! Hope he comes back for a visit soon.

Genesis 8:11
When the dove returned to him in the evening, there in its beak was a freshly plucked olive leaf! Then Noah knew that the water had receded from the earth.

The Calming Sound of Rain
Slow, intentional, steady, nurturing, free falling, earth quenching, flower blooming, tree thriving, sweet smelling rain, that's what I see and hear outside my windows.
The cattle just stand and lower their heads and continue to graze. It does not faze them. It's breezy flannel shirt weather. (I have on one that was my dad's). Oh my gosh, it's been too long. Having lived in west Texas for 5 years it just didn't happen out there very often. Last year 2011, it did not rain, literally, the entire year. The year before that, if it did rain, I was generally inside my work place or someplace where I could not see it or hear it or enjoy it. I wish I had a way to capture it for later, when I'm stressed, when I'm tired, when I just need to be blessed. Just to listen to God giving Mother nature what she needs, what she longs for.
Leviticus 26:4
I will send you rain in its season, and the ground will yield its crops and the trees their fruit.
Deuteronomy 11:14
then I will send rain on your land in its season, both autumn and spring rains, so that you may gather in your grain, new wine and olive oil.
2 Samuel 23:4
he is like the light of morning at sunrise on a cloudless morning, like the brightness after rain that brings grass from the earth.’
God is truly good!
The Rain
Pitter-patter, raindrops,
Falling from the sky;
Here is my umbrella
To keep me safe and dry!
When the rain is over,
And the sun begins to glow,
Little flowers start to bud,
And grow and grow and grow!
- Anon.
Rain On The Green Grass
Rain on the green grass,
And rain on the sea,
Rain on the house-tops,
But not on me!
- Anon.
Slip On Your Raincoat
Slip on your raincoat,
Pull on your galoshes;
Wading in puddles
Makes splishes and sploshes.
Deuteronomy 32:2
Let my teaching fall like rain and my words descend like dew, like showers on new grass, like abundant rain on tender plants.

Nothing Quite Like the Sound
Nothing quite like the sound of quiet gentle rain falling on leaves. Sweet. Relaxing. Rare. An hour of listening. Slowly the house starts to wake with other sounds, creaking, clanging, jingling dog tags and whispers. Doors start to open, coffee starts to perk, voices get louder and the baby starts to stir. The house becomes alive with family. I love the holidays. I love my family. Nothing quite like the sound.
